'Wrong Protocol or connection state' |

If you see this error you should also notice a browser window has been launched explaining that your free internet play time has expired. Click Here to view the options to extend your play
If you've had less than 7 days of free play - or if you see this error the first time you enter the 'waiting room' - another possible cause is that you are running an old version (pre 6.1.62) - the current 'genuine' version of QuickSnooker can always be downloaded from http://www.quickgames.co.uk/quicksnooker.exe

What is 'registering' ? |

Where can I find a 'Crack' ? |
A 'crack' tampers with the QuickSnooker code - in theory to unlock the game for free. If you're prepared to cruise the darker side of the Internet - you might find one - we monitor them carefully most don't work, some are infected with viruses, some are 'Trojans' opening access to your computer. YOU ARE EXTREMELY LIKELY TO GET A VIRUS whilst attempting to find or use a crack. The behaviour of any 'cracked' version of the program cannot be guaranteed - it IS likely to damage your files or settings. In short - DON'T RISK it - NONE of them work for on-line play anyway. There are lots of easy, and safe ways to pay and play.Click Here to find out more

I can never be challenged ? (I am behind a firewall) |
Firewalls are a complex subject - and we can't possbily cover every type here but all you should need to know is
that Quicksnooker accepts incomming challenges on port 1001.
Most firewalls don't block the outbound connections to the waiting room (or the challenges you issue to other players)
but if you want to accept (or even acknowlege!) challenges from other players you will need to 'open' port 1001 for inbound traffic on your firewall.
Look out for a complete example of how to configure Microsoft Internet Firewall (XP - Pro) . . coming soon.

System Requirements |
QuickSnooker is written for Microsoft Windows 95/98/2000/ME/XP. It will run on virtually any Pentium Class PC
It does NOT run on Apple Macintosh, Windows 3.1, or Windows NT 3.51
or 4.0.
The program requires DirectX 5.0 or above. (This is shipped with Microsoft
Internet Explorer 4 and above.)
A desktop colour depth of High Color or above and a resolution
of 800*600 or greater is recommended.
Download Time |
The program is about 1MB, and will take approxiamtely 5
minutes to download on a 56k modem, and 30 seconds to install.
It's worth the wait !
Is the game
a virus or might it contain one ? |
No. The game and installation package have been scanned are free from all viruses.
I've installed
the program - how do I make it start ? |
The installation places a shortcut on your desktop called 'QuickSnooker'.
You will also find shortcut under 'Start', 'Programs', 'QuickSnooker'.
Gameplay is
slow, jerky or flickery |
The game should run at approximately 50 frames per second any any
200Mhz+ Pentium class machine.
Check you do not have other processor intensive taks (such as playing
an audio CD, or MP3) running.
Sizing the window to less than about 800 pixels wide may help.
Why is the
table fuzzy and some of the balls 'ragged' and the wrong colours |
Your desktop colour depth is not set high enough - you need at
least High Color (65536 colours).
For a 'typical' PC
- Right-click on a piece of 'blank' desktop
- Choose 'Properties'
- Select the 'Settings' tab
- In the 'colors' box select 'high color' or greater
- Whilst you're here you might like to check you have a screen
area of 800 by 600 or more.
- Press 'OK'

DIXUINIT
Error |
You don't have Microsoft DirectX installed. It can be obtained
from http://www.microsoft.com/directX or (more quickly) from many
game or magazine cover disks. If you have Internet Explorer 4.0
or above you shouldn't get this problem.
DIRECTX Errors
You might have Installed Apple QuickTime (possibly from a coverdisk). QuickTime and QuickSnooker don't seem to 'get on' for some reason - uninstalling QuickTime is reported to solve this problem.
I get 'A required DLL file,MSVBVM60.DLL, was not found' when I try to start the program.
How do i fix that ? |
Your machine appears to missing the Visual Basic Runtime Libraries.
These components are already installed on most machines and are
quite large, so we have opted to leave them out of the installation
package.
Download and run this setup to fix this proplem.

I can't
make the balls move - nothing happens when I click |
There are two ways to take a shot - you might like to try them
both to see which you are more comfortable with:
1) ButtonDown-Drag-Release
- Move the mouse over the cueball (the white)
- Hold down the left mouse button
- Move the mouse smoothly 'away' from the cueball.
- Release - the Cueball will be 'Fired' down the white line.
2) Click-Move-Click
- Move the mouse over the cueball
- Click the left mouse (without moving the mouse !)
- Move the mouse smoothly 'away' from the cueball,
- Click the left mouse button - the cueball will be 'fired' down
the white line.
*Note* The thin white line indicates the
path the ball will follow (its length is not representative
of the distance that it will travel.) A thicker yellow line appears
on the cue side of the ball. A % power indicator also appears.
As a guide 100% power will send the cueball approximately 3 times
the length of the table.
How do I
cancel a shot ? |
To cancel a shot, click the right mouse button whilst dragging/moving.
Can I put 'spin'
on the cueball? |
As with the real game it is possible to control the movement of
the cueball after it has struck the object ball using spin.
The spin indicator (in the bottom right) shows where you will strike
the cueball - to be a winner you will need to play strategically,
carefully positioning the cueball after each shot.
Click on the white ball to set the strike position. Striking the
cueball high will cause the white to follow on, low will cause it
to spin back, whereas left and right will send the white towards
the chosen side.
I can't get exactly the right angle on long shots. ! |
When taking a long shot, you can find the mouse is not accurate enough to align the shot properly.
Use the 'click, release, move - click' method (to take your shots) and instead of the final 'click' - you will find you can use the cursor keys for fine adjustment of your aim - and the 'Enter' key to take the shot.
Why don't the
balls go in the pockets sometimes ? |
Remember that the line from the target ball is the *CENTRELINE*
and the edge of the ball may hit the cushsion before you'd think.
It's also sometimes necessary to rebound a ball from the 'far' jaw
of a pocket when shooting along the cushions.

Moving your key (Registered users) |
Your key is based on a serial number tied to your COMPUTER if you change computers (or reformat) you will need a new key.
To get a key for your 'new' computer - download the 'unregistered' version onto it and then use the 'move key' button to move your key TO the new computer.
You will need to know your key - so please take a note of it BEFORE you reformat.
Note:-The 'move key' button is found in the 'waiting room' ('Network play', 'Internet waiting room') - towards the bottom right of the screen.
NEVER reveal your key to anyone else - they may 'steal' it (by transferring it to their machine) and never give it back.
How do I un-install the program ? |
The installation places an un-install shortcut in 'Start', 'Programs',
'QuickSnooker'.
I can't get into the waiting room ? |
Assuming that you've already checked the obvious things - like you're connected to the Internet. The next most likely cause is a corrupt registry setting that stores the window position. Still trying to work out why it happens - but in the meantime this program fixes the problem
