So, Here we are again . .

Some of you may remember another beta version from 2006 - I got a bit carried away and broke alot of stuff - to the point where it couldn't be released.
This time - I've 'just' tried to fix what I consider the single most important issue - connectivity - with the rise of the domestic wireless router, and with windows (and other) firewalls in wide usage, many people find they cannot accept challenges. The more technically astute can work around this - but for your average Joe, it's a bit of a nightmare.
What this version does - is routes *all* traffic via the waiting room - in theory it means *anyone* can be challenged, behind any router or firewall - the new approach has some other benefits - it has opened up the possibility of Live Scoring, and of re-connecting to the game in the event of your connection failing. Indirectly - this solves the 'quitting' problem - insofar as somone who has genuinely lost their connection - should, 9 times out of 10 be able to re-join the game. - Give it a go ! - Pull your broadband plug out of the wall half way through a game and you ~should~ be able to reconnect and resume play - Even if you come back with a different IP address!

To use the new version you'll need to download THIS program (version 6.1.94),
When downloading - DO NOT 'run' the file, 'Save' it - into your C:\program files\quicksnooker folder
You may then create a shortcut to it on your desktop by . . .

  • Opening the c:\program files\quicksnooker folder
  • RIGHT clicking the mouse over 'snooker6194.exe'
  • Choose 'Send to','Desktop (create shortcut)'
  • Close all windows

This should leave you with two, co-exisiting snooker shortcuts on your desktop - You can play either version.

As mentioned - one of the big benefits of the new version is being able to see not just who's 'in the room' but also who's playing - AND their LIVE(ish) scores
you can see this good stuff HERE
I need your feedback on the new version to get it into a releasable state - there are many combinations of firewall and router - and many ways to start, end and leave games - I'm not in a position to test them all so please play some frames - be patient if the room is down, please call back later - If it appears to lock up give it a few seconds - I may be working on it at that moment.
I will try and monitor both rooms - but can't be there 24/7 - please don't be offended if there's no reply.

To enable an open and frank discussion, I've created a discussion forum HERE - please feel free to criticise, constructive or otherwise - to ask, and to answer questions there, I'll be visiting regularly and will comment where I think it would be useful.
